About This Service
Veneers can be an option for patients who want to address discoloration, minor chips, uneven tooth shape, worn edges, or small gaps between teeth. Dr. Rana Alan, DMD, and Dr. Nancy Nehawandian, DDS, consider your cosmetic goals, as well as your bite, gum health, and overall dental health, before recommending treatment.
Digital scans and smile simulations allow you to preview proposed changes and discuss your preferences before treatment begins. Our team also takes the time to explain your options, answer questions, and create a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
Why Choose Top Down Dental for Porcelain Veneers?
Successful veneer treatment requires more than improving the appearance of individual teeth. It also requires careful planning to make sure the final restorations fit comfortably with your bite and overall smile.
At Top Down Dental, we use tools such as the iTero Digital Scanner, digital X-rays, and, when appropriate, CBCT imaging — part of the dental technology we use to gather detailed information for treatment planning. Digital mockups can help you visualize proposed changes before your final veneers are made.
Your dentist will discuss the appearance you want to achieve, review treatment alternatives, and explain how to maintain your veneers after placement. When appropriate, we also coordinate care with your general dentist or other specialists.
Our approach reflects our philosophy: A Healthy Life Starts With a Healthy Mouth. Cosmetic improvements should work together with the health and function of your smile.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic restorations designed to cover the visible front surface of a tooth. They can change the color, length, shape, and proportions of teeth while preserving more natural tooth structure than a crown in many cases.
Each veneer is designed using digital impressions and 3D planning. We consider the surrounding teeth, your smile, and the natural translucency of enamel when selecting the shape and shade of the final restorations.
An intraoral camera and digital mockups can also help with treatment planning and allow you to preview proposed changes. Once the final veneers are created by skilled ceramists, your dentist checks their fit, appearance, and bite before bonding them into place. TekScan may be used when additional bite analysis is helpful.
We aim to minimize enamel removal whenever possible. Your dentist will also explain whether veneers are the most appropriate option for you or whether another treatment, such as bonding, orthodontics, or a crown, may better meet your needs.
What to Expect During Veneer Treatment
Porcelain veneer treatment typically takes two to three visits, depending on your individual treatment plan.
During your first visit, your dentist evaluates your teeth, discusses your goals, and takes digital scans. You may also review a digital smile simulation to better understand the proposed changes.
The typical process includes:
- Consultation and smile planning: Digital scans and mockups help plan the size, shape, and appearance of your veneers.
- Conservative tooth preparation: A small amount of enamel may be removed when necessary to create space for the restoration.
- Digital impressions and temporary veneers: Digital impressions are sent to the lab, and temporary veneers may be placed while your final restorations are created.
- Final placement: Your dentist evaluates the fit, shade, and bite before bonding the porcelain veneers to your teeth.
Local anesthesia can be used during tooth preparation to help keep you comfortable. After placement, we check your bite and explain how to clean and care for your new restorations.
Follow-up visits allow us to evaluate comfort, fit, and the condition of the veneers over time.
Who May Benefit From Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers may be appropriate for patients who want to improve several cosmetic concerns while limiting the amount of natural tooth structure that needs to be altered.
Veneers may be considered for:
- Stains or discoloration that do not respond well to whitening
- Minor chips or fractures
- Uneven or worn tooth edges
- Teeth with shape or proportion concerns
- Small gaps between front teeth
Veneers are not the right treatment for every cosmetic concern. During your consultation, we may discuss alternatives such as dental bonding, orthodontics, or crowns, depending on your goals and the condition of your teeth.
Patients who clench or grind their teeth may need additional bite evaluation and a nightguard to help protect their restorations. TekScan can be used when a more detailed analysis of bite forces is appropriate.
Are Porcelain Veneers Permanent?
Porcelain veneers are considered a long-term cosmetic treatment because placing them may require removing some enamel from the tooth. For that reason, patients should understand the benefits, limitations, maintenance requirements, and alternative treatments before proceeding.
Our dentists use conservative preparation techniques and aim to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.
How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?
Porcelain veneers can last for many years when they are properly maintained. Their longevity depends on factors such as oral hygiene, bite forces, teeth grinding, diet, habits, and the health of the underlying teeth and gums.
To protect your veneers:
- Brush with a non-abrasive toothpaste
- Floss every day
- Attend regular dental exams and cleanings
- Avoid chewing ice or using your teeth to open packages
- Wear a nightguard if recommended for grinding or clenching
During follow-up visits, we can evaluate your veneers, bite, and underlying tooth health. Digital X-rays and clinical examinations may be used to monitor the teeth and the margins of the restorations.
Contact our office if you notice ongoing sensitivity, a chip, or a loose restoration so the area can be evaluated.
Porcelain Veneers vs. Other Cosmetic Treatments
Veneers are only one way to improve the appearance of a smile. The best treatment depends on what you want to change and the condition of your teeth.
Dental bonding may be suitable for smaller cosmetic changes and generally requires less tooth preparation. Orthodontic treatment may be more appropriate when tooth position or bite alignment is the main concern. Crowns provide greater coverage and may be recommended when a tooth needs more structural support.
During your consultation, your dentist will explain the advantages and limitations of each option so you can make an informed decision.

Found the place through a biological dentist website because I was looking for more wholistic and better dental services in the area. It has been great getting my teeth cleaned and gum treated here over the past one and half years. Doctors are very caring and willing to spend time explaining things to you. Also I love the office vibe, although the building is older outside but interior looks really modern and clean. Staffs are friendly too. Highly recommended.
